ARTHUR MURRAY DANCE STUDIO
The City of Danbury and CT Pennysaver present a new weekly feature:
BUSINESS WEDNESDAYS
By Taylor O’Brien, Danbury Mayor’s Office
Each week, a different Danbury business will be highlighted. This week’s business is Arthur Murray Dance Studio. The studio’s new owner, Andy Cabell, has taught at the studio for the last eight years. He is very familiar with the students, the downtown Danbury area, and the message that the studio continues to convey to new students.
"Each new student is welcomed and evaluated based on their learning style and personality to determine the most beneficial curriculum. A typical dancer follows a three-tier learning process of personal lessons, group sessions and dedicated practice times. Most people come to the studio with no knowledge of dance, but the instead have a willingness to challenge themselves. All of your lessons are developed to fit your specific needs and goals, which is why there isn’t one set curriculum.
At this studio, you do not need a partner to start dancing. There are plenty of certified instructors that will guide you on your journey. There are a multitude of classic dances to study, but Arthur Murray also offers a unique teaching of “social dance survival skills.” You can come in wanting to learn how to dance at a party or at a wedding and the instructors will help you."
Andy is determined to connect his studio with the community it serves. Arthur Murray of Danbury donates time and energy to local charities, including A Better Chance in Ridgefield, Hillside Food Outreach in Danbury, Donate Life, and Housatonic Valley Habitat for Humanity. It also donates raffle items. Andy intends to build a more exciting dance culture in Danbury, where he feels the social dance culture is lacking. "I would like to see local businesses come together to help give the residents of our City something new to do on the weekends, and to bring a more fun, vibrant nightlife to the Main Street area," says Andy.
Arthur Murray's position in the greater Danbury area is as a social dance studio. Although it participates in regional and area showcases, the primary goal is to take someone who claims that they "have two left feet" and show them that with a little bit of practice and some excellent instruction, they will feel like they are a dancer in no time. "Just because you've never danced before does not mean that you cannot learn. We firmly believe that anyone can learn to dance if given the opportunity," he added.
Arthur Murray Dance Studio is located at 345 Main Street. To book a lesson, call 203-792-0176 or online at arthurmurrayofdanbury.com. _____________________________________________________________________
